I live in Orlando FL, and have maybe a day or two a year where I could use this in my area because it is warm... however i travel north to back pack a few times a year. This year I took a bit of a risk, ordering this product (0 Degree) variety, having it shipped to my buddies house days before the hike when the over night forecast low was down in the low 20F range. I boarded the plane en route for Pennsylvania the night before we were scheduled to head out to our backpacking destination the following morning. Once we made the 3.5 hour drive north we discovered that there was a substantial amount of snow and ice still covering the trails and forest floor. The winds were strong gusting in what seemed like all directions. We got to our camp and I unpacked the Hyke & Byke bag for the first time in a feels like 10 degree night with wind chill.Pros:-It was nice to carry 1 thing as opposed to two in my pack. I normally take an under quilt and a bag.-Packs down small and has nice cinch straps and what appears to be durable stitching-The zipper... this thing is amazing. The outer fabric feels like it would snag, but the zipper design is very very helpful.-Easy to get into in dark, cold conditions when intoxicated (not from experience) :)-Warm, and wind resistant. A buddy also in a hammock had a conventional under quilt and could NOT wait to pack up and get on the trail because he was so cold. I could not relate because I slept like a baby and was warm through the night with absolutely no inclination of being the slightest bit cold.-Face hole cinches down to closeCons (these could be end user error for sure... why I haven't deducted any stars)-I couldn't keep the ends from coming open. I did get the bottom secure but had to move to end of hammock before strap. This caused the bag to be positioned too far toward the foot end. I was comfortable but my feet were a little high... the foot end stayed tight in this configuration. The head end was now 10-16 inches from the head strap so when I got into the hammock the cinch cord on the bag would open and leave an opening in my hammock to the outside. I got around this by stuffing my fleece pants into the hole and this created my winter cocoon that kept me warm through the night. I figure too that I didn't have time to experiment too much because of camp set up... getting my sleeping arrangement was only part of what was needed to be completed before sun down. I hope to find a better method of getting this problem fixed.-When i would get out of the bag the sides would droop down to the snow. I had to be extra careful to only unzip a little so it wouldn't sag. Would have been nice to have something run on the top side of the bag to keep it up off of the ground when unzipped. This could also be a symptom of having the bag favoring the foot of the hammock so again not a big deal and may be able to overcome in a different configuration.-Repacking can be a bit challenging if there isn't a floor or table to sit it on. I had to pack up while trying to keep it off the ground using my hands and body. It was a bit tough to re compress into the pack for compressing using straps. not a deal breaker but I did feel like this is a challenge to note. Conclusion: glad I selected this bag to take this risk because it worked out... not only did I not die... but I was extremely comfortable too. Have yet to test in moderate temperatures.. Not sure how I would feel in temps above freezing.
